بر نمے آید اگر آہنگ تونرم از بیم است تار چنگ تو
English translation
And if thy melody not freely soars, fear has relaxed the tension of thy strings;
Urdu translation
اگر تیرے ساز سے لے نہیں اٹھتی تو اس کا یہ مطلب ہے کہ اس کی تار خوف کے باعث نرم ہو چکی ہے۔

This is couplet 23 of 31 in “در معنی اینکہ یأس و حزن و خوف ام الحبا ئث است و قاطع حیات، و توحید ازالۂ این امراض خبیثہ می کند” (That Despair, Grief and Fear are the Mother of Abominations, destroying Life; end that Belief in Unity of God puts an end to those Foul Diseases) in the section The Pillars of Islam, from Allama Muhammad Iqbal's Persian book Rumuz-e-Bekhudi (رموزِ بیخودی), published in 1918.
