نہنگ با بچۂ خویش

نہنگی بچہ خود را چہ خوش گفتبہ دین ما حرام مد کرانہبہ موج ویز و از ساحل بپرہیزہمہ دریاست ما را شیانہ

Thus said to its child a ‘croco’:* with boast; it is banned in our faith to see the coast.
So mix up with waves and shun the coast; to us the river bed plays a host.
* Diminitive of crocodile.

تو در دریا نئے او در بر تستبہ طوفان در فتادن جوہر تستچو یک دم از تلاطم ہا بیاسودہمین دریای تو غارتگر تست

In sea you are not it lies but in thee; show thy mettle now and face floods of sea.
If you seek from storms a fast retreat; this sea within thee will rob thy heat.
