جہان از عشق و عشق از سینہ تستسرورش از می دیرینۂ تستجز این چیزی نمیدانم ز جبریلکہ او یک جوہر از آئینۂ تست

English translation

For the world of love the fount is thee; Thy old wine gives a constant glee.
The Gabe but told only one thing to me; that he is a drop while you are a sea.*
* In line 4 Iqbal used mirror against which I have written moon since function of both is the same viz, reflection of light.

جہان کی بنیاد عشق پر ہے اور عشق آپ (صلعم ) کے سینہ مبارک سے ملتا ہے؛ عشق کا سرور آپ (صلعم ) کی شراب کہنہ پر موقوف ہے۔میں تو جبریل (علیہ) کے بارے میں اس کے علاوہ اور کچھ نہیں جانتا؛ کہ وہ آپ (صلعم ) ہی کے آئینہ کا ایک جوہر ہے۔
