مدتے میناے او در خون نشستساقی حکمت بجامش می نبست

For a long time he laboured and sweated, but philosophy brought no wine to his cup.

اس کی مینائے ذہن مدت تک خون میں ڈوبی رہی مگر ساقیء حکمت نے اس کے جام میں شراب نہ ڈالی۔

This is couplet 5 of 44 in “حکایت شیخ و برہمن و مکالمہ گنگ و ہمالہ در معنی اینکہ تسلسل حیات ملیہ از محکم گرفتن روایات مخصوصہ ملیہ می باشد” (Story of the Sheikh and the Brahmin, followed by a conversation between Ganges and Himalayas to the effect that the continuation of social life depends on firm attachment to the characteristic traditions of the community), from Allama Muhammad Iqbal's Persian book Asrar-e-Khudi (اسرارِ خودی), published in 1915.
