چاند اور تارے

ڈرتے ڈرتے دم سحر سےتارے کہنے لگے قمر سے

Being scared by the approaching dawn, stars started saying to the moon:

نظارے رہے وہی فلک پرہم تھک بھی گئے چمک چمک کر

‘The same scenes have continued in the sky; we became even tired of continuous shining.

کام اپنا ہے صبح و شام چلناچلنا چلنا، مدام چلنا

Our duty is moving morning till night; moving, moving, continuously moving.

بے تاب ہے اس جہاں کی ہر شےکہتے ہیں جسے سکوں، نہیں ہے

Everything in this universe is restless: What is known as rest does not exist.

رہتے ہیں ستم کش سفر سبتارے، انساں، شجر، حجر سب

Remain oppressed by the moving all; stars, mankind, trees, rocks and all.

ہوگا کبھی ختم یہ سفر کیامنزل کبھی آئے گی نظر کیا

Will this journey ever finish? Will destination be ever visible?’

کہنے لگا چاند، ہم نشینواے مزرع شب کے خوشہ چینو!

The moon started saying: ‘O Companions’! ‘O gleaners of the field of night.

جنبش سے ہے زندگی جہاں کییہ رسم قدیم ہے یہاں کی

In motion is the life of the universe; this is an age old custom of this place.

ہے دوڑتا اشہب زمانہکھا کھا کے طلب کا تازیانہ

The horse of time is ever running, flogged by the desire for search.

اس رہ میں مقام بے محل ہےپوشیدہ قرار میں اجل ہے

Resting on this path is inappropriate; concealed in the rest's cloak is death.

چلنے والے نکل گئے ہیںجو ٹھہرے ذرا، کچل گئے ہیں

Those who were moving have moved away! Those halting a little, have been trampled!

انجام ہے اس خرام کا حسنآغاز ہے عشق، انتہا حسن

The reward for this moving is Beauty; Love is the beginning, the end is Beauty.
