در معنی اینکہ در زمانۂ انحطاط تقلید از اجتہاد اولی تراست
اے پریشان محفل دیرینہ اتمرد شمع زندگی در سینہ ات
English translation
O thou whose ancient concourse is dispersed, within whose breast the lamp of life is out;
Urdu translation
اے مسلمان! تیری قدیم محفل پریشان ہو چکی ہے؛ تیرے سینے کے اندر زندگی کی شمع بجھ چکی ہے۔

This is couplet 16 of 28 in “در معنی اینکہ در زمانۂ انحطاط تقلید از اجتہاد اولی تراست” (That In Times Of Decandence Strict Conformity Is Better Than Free Speculation) in the section The Pillars of Islam, from Allama Muhammad Iqbal's Persian book Rumuz-e-Bekhudi (رموزِ بیخودی), published in 1918.
