سہانی نمود جہاں کی گھڑی تھیتبسم فشاں زندگی کی کلی تھی

The hour of the Universe' appearance was charming; the flower-bud of life was showering smiles.

کہیں مہر کو تاج زر مل رہا تھاعطا چاند کو چاندنی ہو رہی تھی

Here the golden crown, the sun was getting; there the moon its moon-light was getting.

سیہ پیرہن شام کو دے رہے تھےستاروں کو تعلیم تابندگی تھی

The dark gown to the night was being given; training of brightness to stars was being given.

کہیں شاخ ہستی کو لگتے تھے پتےکہیں زندگی کی کلی پھوٹتی تھی

The Existence's branch was getting leaves here; the bud of life was bursting out there.

فرشتے سکھاتے تھے شبنم کو روناہنسی گل کو پہلے پہل آ رہی تھی

The angels were teaching weeping to the dew; for the first time the rose was laughing.

عطا درد ہوتا تھا شاعر کے دل کوخودی تشنہ کام مے بے خودی تھی

They were conferring pathos on the poet's heart; Khudi for the wine of Bükhudi was pining.

اٹھی اول اول گھٹا کالی کالیکوئی حور چوٹی کو کھولے کھڑی تھی

For the first time dark black clouds were appearing as if some Houri of Paradise with open hair was standing.

زمیں کو تھا دعوی کہ میں آسماں ہوںمکاں کہہ رہا تھا کہ میں لا مکاں ہوں

The earth was claiming elegance of the sky. The space was claiming to be boundless.

غرض اس قدر یہ نظارہ تھا پیاراکہ نظارگی ہو سراپا نظارا

In short so beautiful the sight was that seeing it in itself a panorama was.

ملک آزماتے تھے پرواز اپنیجبینوں سے نور ازل آشکارا

The angels their flying powers were testing; eternal lights from their foreheads were appearing.

فرشتہ تھا اک، عشق تھا نام جس کاکہ تھی رہبری اس کی سب کا سہارا

An angel called Love there was; whose guidance everyone's hope was.

فرشتہ کہ پتلا تھا بے تابیوں کاملک کا ملک اور پارے کا پارا

The angel who the embodiment of restlessness was; Angel among angels and restless like mercury he was.

پے سیر فردوس کو جا رہا تھاقضا سے ملا راہ میں وہ قضا را

He was going towards the Paradise for a stroll; he met death on its way by the destiny's roll.

یہ پوچھا ترا نام کیا، کام کیا ہےنہیں آنکھ کو دید تیری گوارا

He asked death: ‘What is the name and work of yours? I do not want to encounter the face of yours’.

ہوا سن کے گویا قضا کا فرشتہاجل ہوں، مرا کام ہے آشکارا

Hearing this said the angel of death: ‘My work is clear, I am the angel of death.

اڑاتی ہوں میں رخت ہستی کے پرزےبجھاتی ہوں میں زندگی کا شرارا

I shatter the chattels of existence. I extinguish the spark of life.

مری آنکھ میں جادوئے نیستی ہےپیام فنا ہے اسی کا اشارا

The magic of annihilation is in my eyes. The message of destruction is its symhol.

مگر ایک ہستی ہے دنیا میں ایسیوہ آتش ہے میں سامنے اس کے پارا

But there is one entity in the Universe; it is fire, I am only mercury before it.

شرر بن کے رہتی ہے انساں کے دل میںوہ ہے نور مطلق کی آنکھوں کا تارا

It lives in the human heart as a spark. It is the darling of the Divine Light.

ٹپکتی ہے آنکھوں سے بن بن کے آنسووہ آنسو کہ ہو جن کی تلخی گوارا

It constantly drips as tears from the eyes: The tears whose bitterness is tolerable’.

سنی عشق نے گفتگو جب قضا کیہنسی اس کے لب پر ہوئی آشکارا

When Love heard this from the death's lips, laughter started appearing from its lips.

گری اس تبسم کی بجلی اجل پراندھیرے کا ہو نور میں کیا گزارا

The thunder of such smile descended on death: How can darkness stay in front of such light?

بقا کو جو دیکھا فنا ہو گئی وہقضا تھی شکار قضا ہو گئی وہ

On seeing eternity to death it fell: Death it was, to death it fell.
