فردوس میں ایک مکالمہ

ہاتف نے کہا مجھ سے کہ فردوس میں اک روزحالی سے مخاطب ہوئے یوں سعدی شیراز

Hatif said to me that in Paradise one day; Sa‘di of Shiraz addressed Hali in this way:
(Hatif: The hidden angel who puts ideas in mind or gives news of the unknown. It may also refer to the famous Irani poet of the period of literary renaissance of Iran.)

اے آنکہ ز نور گہر نظم فلک تابدامن بہ چراغ مہ اختر زدہ اے باز!

‘O with the pearl of whose poetry’s sky-illuminating light; the falcon became companion of moon and stars’ light!

کچھ کیفیت مسلم ہندی تو بیاں کرواماندئہ منزل ہے کہ مصروف تگ و تاز

Relate to me what the story of the Indian Muslim is: Is he lagging at the halt or busy in exertion is?

مذہب کی حرارت بھی ہے کچھ اس کی رگوں میں؟تھی جس کی فلک سوز کبھی گرمی آواز

Is some warmth of dânleft in his veins? The heat of whose call (Azan) was once burning the sky.’

باتوں سے ہوا شیخ کی حالی متاثررو رو کے لگا کہنے کہ اے صاحب اعجاز

Hali was moved by the talk of the Shaikh. He started weeping and saying, ‘O man of miracles!

جب پیر فلک نے ورق ایام کا الٹاآئی یہ صدا، پائوگے تعلیم سے اعزاز

When the sky turned over the leaf of time; the call came that respect was possible only with education!

آیا ہے مگر اس سے عقیدوں میں تزلزلدنیا تو ملی، طائر دیں کر گیا پرواز

But this has produced wavering in fundamental beliefs; secular benefits were obtained, but din had been undermined.

دیں ہو تو مقاصد میں بھی پیدا ہو بلندیفطرت ہے جوانوں کی زمیں گیر زمیں تاز

Goals also become exalted if the din is preserved; the youth’s nature is paralyzed and very low keyed.

مذہب سے ہم آہنگی افراد ہے باقیدیں زخمہ ہے، جمعیت ملت ہے اگر ساز

Concordance among individuals is kept only with din. Din is the plectrum if national congregation is the musical instrument.

بنیاد لرز جائے جو دیوار چمن کیظاہر ہے کہ انجام گلستاں کا ہے آغاز

If the foundation of the garden’s wall is shaken; it is clearly the beginning of the garden’s end.

پانی نہ ملا زمزم ملت سے جو اس کوپیدا ہیں نئی پود میں الحاد کے انداز

As the water of Zamzam was not available to it; some manner of atheism is appearing in the new progeny.

یہ ذکر حضور شہ یثرب میں نہ کرناسمجھیں نہ کہیں ہند کے مسلم مجھے غماز

Do not talk of this in the audience of the Lord of Yathrib; lest Muslims of India consider that this is my back-biting.’

خرما نتواں یافت ازاں خار کہ کشتیمدیبا نتواں بافت ازاں پشم کہ رشتیم

‘Dates cannot be obtained from the weeds we have sown. Brocade cannot be obtained from the wool we have spun.’
