حکایت شیر و شہنشاہ عالمگیر رحمةاﷲ علیہ

شاہ عالمگیر گردون آستاناعتبار دودمان گورگان

Shah Alamgir, that high and mighty king,
pride and renown of Gurgan Timur’s line;

پایہ ی اسلامیان برتر ازواحترام شرع پیغمبر ازو

In whom Islam attained a loftier fame
and wider honour graced the Prophet’s (S.A.W.) Law;

در میان کارزار کفر و دینترکش ما را خدنگ آخرین

He the last arrow to our quiver left in the affray of Faith with Unbelief;

تخم الحادی کہ اکبر پروریدباز اندر فطرت دارا دمید

When that the impious seed of heresy, by Akbar nourished, sprang and sprouted fresh in Dara’s soul;

شمع دل در سینہ ہا روشن نبودملت ما از فساد ایمن نبود

The candle of the heart was dimmed in every breast,
no more secure against corruption our community continued;

حق گزید از ہند عالمگیر راآن فقیر صاحب شمشیر را

Then God chose from India that humble-minded warrior, Alamgir;

از پے احیاے دین مأمور کردبہر تجدید یقین مأمور کرد

Religion to revive, faith to renew.

برق تیغش خرمن الحاد سوختشمع دین در محفل ما بر فروخت

The lightning of his sword set all ablaze the harvest of impiety; faith’s torch oncemore its radiance o’er our counsels shed.

کور ذوقان داستانہا ساختندوسعت ادراک او نشناختند

Many the tales misguided spirits told, blind to the breadth of his percipient mind;

شعلہ ی توحید را پروانہ بودچون براہیم اندرین بتخانہ بود

He was a moth that ever beat its wings about the candle-flame of Unity, an Abraham in India’s idol-house.

در صف شاہنشان یکتاستیفقر او از تربتش پیداستی

In all the line of kings he stands alone; his tomb is witness to his saintliness.

روزے آن زیبندہ ی تاج و سریرآن سپہدار و شہنشاہ و فقیر

One day that ornament of crown and throne, that lord of battle, saint and emperor;

صبحگاہان شد بہ سیر بیشہ ئیبا پرستاری وفا اندیشہ ئی

Set forth into the jungle with the dawn attended by one faithful follower;

سر خوش از کیفیت باد سحرطایران تسبیح خوان بر ہر شجر

Exultant in the joyous breath of morn, birds sang their hymns to God on every tree.

شاہ رمز آگاہ شد محو نمازخیمہ بر زد در حقیقت از مجاز

The conscient king became absorbed in prayer, striking his tent
from this contingent world; to pitch it in the realm of truth sublime.

شیر ببر آمد پدید از طرف دشتاز خروش او فلک لرزندہ گشت

A tiger at that instant from the plain suddenly sprang; heaven trembled at his roar;

بوے انسان دادش از انسان خبرپنجہ عالمگیر را زد بر کمر

Scenting afar the presence of a man, he leaped on Alamgir, and smote his loins.

دست شہ نادیدہ خنجر بر کشیدشرزہ شیری را شکم از ھم درید

The king, unviewing, drew his dagger forth and rent the belly of the furious beast;

دل بخود راہی نداد اندیشہ راشیر قالین کرد شیر بیشہ را

His heart admitting not a thought of fear, he stretched the tiger prostrate at his feet;

باز سوے حق رمید آن ناصبوربود معراجش نماز با حضور

Then sped again impatiently to God, mounting prayer’s ladder to his heavenly throne.

این چنین دل خود نما و خود شکندارد اندر سینہ ی مومن وطن

A heart so humble and at once so proud, no other lodge but the believer’s breast.

بندہ ی حق پیش مولا لاستیپیش باطل از نعم بر جاستی

Possesses; for the servitor of Truth is naught before his Master,
but stand firm against Untruth, and positive indeed.

تو ہم اے نادان دلی آور بدستشاہدی را محملی آور بدست

Thou too, O ignorant man, take such a heart into thy hold; let it a litter be wherein immortal Beauty may be borne.

خویش را در باز و خود را بازگیردام گستر از نیاز و ناز گیر

Stake self, to win self back; spread out the snare of supplication, glory to entrap;

عشق را آتش زن اندیشہ کنروبہ حق باش و شیری پیشہ کن

Let Love set fire to pale Anxiety; be thou God’s fox, to learn the tiger’s trade.

خوف حق عنوان ایمان است و بسخوف غیر از شرک پنہان است و بس

The fear of God faith’s only preface is, all other fear is secret disbelief.
